Cortina Peters Interview on Voice It

Tiara – What was your inspiration to become a mental health counselor?

Cortina Peters – Once I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree, I was a family consultant. I knew that was the furthest I was gonna go without additional education and credentials. So I made sure I researched and figured out what I could do and still stick to my passion. I decided to get my Master’s degree, and I was interning. I also became licensed and ended up having my private practice.

Tiara – Tell me about the different organizations you worked with.

Cortina Peters – I am apart of the national association of women business owners. I’m also a board member of the black health commission and the live to love scholarship foundation. It’s all about the promotion and progression of encouraging and empowering people. The one thing I am most connected with is the black health commission, only because we touch on various topics. We work on mental health, physical health, education, finance, and social development. It’s important to stay connected.

Tiara – Tell me about your IAmCortinaPeters Brand

Cortina Peters – My sole focus is to empower people to win emotionally, spiritually, and physically. It’s all about identifying your true self so you can authentically walk in your purpose. Sometimes we don’t know what our purpose is because we don’t take the time to uncover what it is. So it’s helping people to take a deep breath, take a step back, regroup, and move forward.

Tiara – Who inspired you growing up?

Cortina Peters – My aunt Anne inspired me she was an educator. She would also walk me from school every day, and make me read the newspaper before I did anything. My mom inspired me as well, I always looked at her as being strong. It was intimidating, but as I became older, I realized she sacrificed a lot for me, and I appreciate her for that.

Tiara – What advice would you give people that are having a hard time staying motivated with COVID – 19

Cortina Peters – It doesn’t matter what other people think you should be doing do what feels right to you. If making it to the next day without breaking down emotionally is a win for you, that’s ok. You don’t have to create Llc’s, business, and doing all these things that social media is telling you what you should do, or else you’re wasting all this time. Making it to the next day, the next week, or the next month, you have done enough. Be okay with where you’re going, and what you are doing without comparing yourself to others, we are all trying to figure this out
