If you haven’t noticed lately in America the new K in music isn’t a Kardashian gone rapper but K-pop taking over. And to be honest how can we be surprised with this blend of hot pop music and something in my opinion America has been lacking a long time, girl groups and boy bands. Not just any groups, but *NSYNC and Spice Girl level dancing, outfits, and theatric performances and perfectly blended voices over amazing beats.
To even begin to understand the complexity of this music is often discussed and argued by hot producers and musicians, is this a fad or here to stay? Some might argue that not understanding the lyrics could be a problem for this genre crossing over to the American market, but super fans and music experts will tell you, this is a non issue.
K pop on the surface may seem like your basic pop but it is actually far from it. This music formula is intense, down to the way they use the voices of the artists truly as an instrument. Often when you listen to a K Pop groups song, you may notice the way the voices often blend together in such a way, you can’t tell which part belongs to which member.
Not to mention the rule of thumb in k pop being “more is more”, the beats go crazy hard. Producers like G-Dragon (the king of k pop), Teddy Park, and Brave Brothers (one guy, deceiving name) just to name some say it is much like making 3 songs into one. Something has to always be happening in the song. Some of the techniques used to convey emotion very clearly in the vibe of every song, you may start to think you can speak perfect Korean.
They already have the hearts of everyone in Korea and now gaining a large group here in America. Many of the most popular groups have already toured here in America and collaborated with many American artists as well. Stars like Kanye West with K pop artist JYJ, Cardi B with BlackPink, and Nicki Minaj with BTS just to name a few of my personal favorites. So clearly artists here have already started to take notice of these polished performers and what they are doing.
If you are already a super fan like me, make sure to leave your favorite K Pop bop in the comments! And if you haven’t caught the K pop bug and you love good pop music, go check out any of the amazing artists popping out from Korea!
