Mayor Mike Spano tells TMZ … he’s in favor of DMX’s family holding the memorial service at Yonkers Raceway, the city’s largest outdoor venue, and wants to help make it happen.
Yonkers Raceway has a seating capacity of 7,500, but under the state’s COVID guidelines they’d be limited to 20 percent of that number. Mayor Spanos says it would be fitting for folks to say goodbye to an icon like X in the city where he was raised.
Following rapper DMX’s death in Friday morning fellow musicians, fans and industry professionals took to social media to remember his storied career.
Def Jam Recordings, who last collaborated with DMX on his album “Grand Champ” in 2003, released a statement honoring the late rapper.
“We are truly sorry to hear of the loss of rap legend, DMX,” said Connie Orlando, EVP of specials, music programming & music strategy. “We join the millions of fans worldwide in sending our deepest condolences to his loved ones and the hip-hop community. He will truly be missed. DMX is part of the BET family. From countless appearances on our ‘Hip Hop Awards,’ including the cyphers to starring in his self-titled docuseries “DMX: Soul of a Man,” and most recently “Ruff Ryder Chronicles,” his talents extended beyond music, TV, and film.“His work to help the less fortunate, including his hometown of Mount Vernon, New York, speaks to DMX’s benevolent spirit. We will keep his entire family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
