MuffynMan continues his run of new music with the release of “Leaving,” a reflective record produced by Chopsquad DJ that finds the St. Louis artist examining relationships, friendships, and the moment when holding on no longer makes sense.
Rather than approaching the subject from one specific breakup, MuffynMan says “Leaving” pulls from a combination of real-life experiences throughout past relationships and friendships. For him, leaving means completely cutting ties once the reasons to stay no longer outweigh the reasons to move forward.
The production provides a fitting backdrop for that message. “Leaving” is more piano-driven than some of MuffynMan’s other recent releases, allowing his lyrics and perspective to remain at the forefront of the record. The collaboration also reunites him creatively with fellow St. Louis native Chopsquad DJ, a producer MuffynMan has worked with multiple times.
The release is part of a bigger period of musical output for MuffynMan. After allowing records to sit unreleased while waiting for what he considered the “perfect” time, the independent artist has shifted his mindset and is focused on consistently getting the music out.
MuffynMan describes this chapter as his “Cleaning Out My Closet” era — giving listeners access to music and sides of himself they may have missed while he was waiting for the right moment.
Beyond simply relating to the song, MuffynMan wants “Leaving” to encourage listeners to take inventory of the relationships in their own lives and question why certain connections still exist.
“Leaving” is available now on digital streaming platforms.
