Eli Talks Growing up In North Carolina Performing In Costa Rica New Music and More

Eli is known as a singer/Guitarist, she released music to name a few “I Am Eli” “Blood Diamond”, produced by AyeKayPlayDat and more. The North Carolina native is no stranger to the music industry, in our interview she also discussed growing up around her mom singing, and her father playing multiple instruments, along with her brother teaching her how to play the guitar and more. Eli Q & A Interview 

Tiara – When did you first learn how to play the guitar?

Eli – When I was thirteen I would watch my brother play, he would teach me the chorus and everything went from there.

Tiara – How old were you when you started singing?

Eli – I started singing around five years old, but my main focus at the time was dancing, I studied dancing for eighteen years, then I came into my voice and artistry at the age of 18.

Tiara  – Who inspired you growing up?

Eli – My mom, and I grew up around musicians, and my dad would always play instruments. 

Tiara – How was it like for you growing up in North Carolina?

Eli –  I grew up really shy, and I had a lot of time to be with myself, and learning who I am as a person. I had a great time growing up in Addor North Carolina, it was also very peaceful.

Tiara –  Tell me about the time when you were a yoga instructor and a painter?

Eli – In between the year of 2015 – 2016 I moved to Chicago, that was my first big move ever by myself. I went to school in Chicago I learned a lot and I became less shy.

Tiara –  Congratulations on winning your award for the Carolina Music Award in Jazz category. What was going through your mind when your name was called?

Eli – Me and my manager Mary drove to Raleigh NC we took some pictures on the red carpet, I met some really dope artist out of North Carolina. During the award show they had called my name I was not expecting to win, I was surprised and excited, and full of joy to accept that for my team.

Tiara – Tell me about your performance at the First Annual World Day Of African and Afro Descendant Culture?

Eli –  Costa Rica was an incredible trip, it was my first time traveling international as an artist. When we got there we rehearsed, we attended a party with a lot diplomats from around the World. The next day we performed and it was different performing in front of a crowd that don’t speak your language, but it was beautiful, the music connected all of us, and being around our people and different cultures was amazing.

Tiara – Tell me about your single “I Am Eli”?

Eli –  “I Am Eli” is a very special song to me, it’s my re introduction to the world., and how I love to vibe with people.

Tiara – Tell me about your transition from North Carolina to Atlanta?

Eli – I lived in Atlanta with my brothers on and off back when I was 20 years old, and I got a feel for the music seen. Than I finally moved here by myself I was doing a lot of background work for film and television. 

Tiara – Tell me about your song  “Black Diamond”?

Eli – Black Diamond is a song for the culture and black women, and our ancestors that struggled. I read a story about Harriet Ann Jacobs, she grew up with a master beating, and rapping her she had a tough time. She was hiding in her grandmothers attic watching her children grow up. Illness was eating her body away, and she finally escaped and went to New York.  

Tiara – Tell me about your recent performances?

Eli – I have performed virtually for England, LA, Heavy Sound Labs created by Jason Geter of Grand Hustle, and Def Jam.

Tiara – Who would you like to collaborate with?

Eli – Amber Mark I have been listening to her a lot, I would like to write and record with her.

Tiara – What advice would you give upcoming artist?

Eli – Don’t let no one get you down, keep going.

Tiara – What can we expect from you in the future?

Eli – I’m working on a new project and I will be releasing multiple songs. I also I have a new series coming out called “Intentions”.
