Drea Dominique interview on Voice It

Tiara – Tell me about growing up in San Diego, California

Drea Dominique – I was born in Long Island, New York, I would also go to San Diego, California, so I had the best of both worlds growing up.

Tiara – When did you start singing?

Drea Dominique – I always had a passion for music, I grew up with music playing in my house, my dad was a DJ so he had all types of music playing in the house. While I was in school I was in chorus, and I took vocal lessons.

Tiara – What artists inspired you growing up?

Drea Dominique – I like old school music, such as SWV, Escape, Aaliyah, Mary J Blidge, Dru Hill, and Rome.

Tiara – What did you wanna be before you became an artist?

Drea Dominique – I always wanted to be the fit girl in the magazine, I wanted to be on tv, and an actress. I was focused on being in front of the camera.

Tiara – Tell me your journey to becoming a model and being featured in magazines.

Drea Dominique – I started working out, and doing casting calls, submitting to LA castings. I was booked for music videos, I was in King magazine, after I did bad girls club I started getting featured in more magazines.

Tiara – How was it for you being in Bad Girls Club Season 9? and how did you feel after?

Drea Dominique – I learned a lot about myself and other people, it taught me not to be such a pushover because I let a lot of stuff slide in life. I learned to stop being that way because people will run over you, I just know that you gotta go hard on them.

Tiara – Tell me about some of the music videos you have been in, and what advice would you give women that want to be in the music industry or videos?

Drea Dominique – I was in Snoop Dogg video Gangsta Luv ft The Dream, Neyo One In A Million, the list goes on. Anyone that’s trying to make it in the industry, pretty girls come a dime a dozen, so don’t sell yourself short, because if you do, you’re just going to get taking advantage of and past on to the next girl. Just do your job and go home and be professional at all times. It’s not going to make a difference, you might get some exposure, but at the end of the day don’t jeopardize your morals for camera time, because it’s going to be another beautiful girl the next day.

Tiara – What was the inspiration behind your latest song called Waiting?

Drea Dominique – The idea of the song is a girl that is dating a guy who is out grinding all the time, and she is always stuck at home waiting to have a romantic night with him.

Tiara – Tell me about your single Catch My Wave featuring Compton rapper AD, and where did you shoot the video?

Drea Dominique – We shot the video in Hollywood in Beverly Hills, AD is known in Hollywood. We know each other through mutual people. I wanted to add a rapper to the song, and he was a good fit.

Tiara – Who are some of your favorite artists?

Drea Dominique – J Cole, Drake, Summer Walker, The Weekend, Alina Baraz, and DaniLeigh.

Tiara – What keeps you motivated?

Drea Dominique – My daughter, and to make a success for her is my main goal. I have an eyelash line, a lipgloss line, and a T-shirt line. I’m building my brand so it can be pass on to her.

Tiara – What do you do when you’re not working?

Drea Dominique – I like to write poetry, bowling, and go on the beach.

Tiara – What will you be working on next?

Drea Dominique – I will be dropping a new song soon called Ratchet Girl, and I will getting in the studio soon to do my version of Santa Baby. I will be dropping that song in a couple of weeks.
